Feb 13

Valentine’s day, a day of honouring partnership, romance & acknowledgement of one’s significant other.

The day celebrated every year on February the 14th is one that’s practically impossible not to encounter heart shaped balloons, cuddly teddy bears or chocolate selection boxes.

While these are proven classics, (and classics for good reason) here’s three great ways you can get original and creative, making treasured memories that will last a lifetime and truly make your beloved’s Valentine’s day.

Write a letter

A simple, yet really effective method that’s sure to impress is writing and delivering a hand written letter.

This simple act shows you’ve taken time out of your day to sit down and articulate your feelings to your beloved, it shows you’ve given active thought about them, even when you’re not together and is sure to bring a smile to their face.

Be different

Sending a letter is also bound to impresses as modern-day technology has evolved so rapidly. Think about the last time you received a hand-written letter, if you ever have received one.

Knowing the words on the paper they’re reading from was written by your hand is sure to stand out and let them know how you feel, creating a memory that will long outlast E-mail, texts or a telephone call.

Grab a notepad and a pen and plan to write what you’d like to write to your partner. You could be surprised at how easily the words are formed on the page once you start.

Create a collage

If writing down your thoughts and feelings in words isn’t really your thing, then creating a collage could be a great alternative.

Creating a collage shows creativity, originality and shows your partner you’re thinking of them. Seeing all of your memories together in front of them will surface great memories and they’ll appreciate the time and effort that has gone into it. All you need to make a collage are some printed images, some glue and a pair of scissors.

Cook for your partner/ take your partner to dinner

If you’re not much of a wordsmith or one for arts and crafts, preparing a meal for your significant other can be an excellent (almost unspoken) expression of your feelings. You could try cooking their favourite dish.

This shows thought and consideration for your partner and will instantly make them happy as they dine on their favourite meal. Alternatively, if you’re worried cooking on the big day or making mistakes, take your partner to one of their favourite restaurants. Other options include taking them to a spot where you had one of your first dates.

Be original and creative
